Re: java moss

I've never tried java moss, but I've heard many great things about it, like LHG and Lemuel suggested. But I've also heard that it can take over your tank fairly easily since it can pretty much grow...

Re: Kribs or Firemouths

I have a pair of kribs and I LOVE THEM. I'd get the kirbs if you possibly can, even if you have to wait for them... good things come to those who wait! Many of us fish enthusiasts have little...

Re: Can I keep Kribensis with anglefish??

I have a single angelfish and male/female pair of kribs in my 46 gallon tank (among other fish) and I've NEVER had a problem. I've heard mixed feelings as well, but as far as I'm concerned it should...

Your tanks are amazing! I went to your My Space page yesterday, but I couldn't see the pics since I'm not registered there. Glad you posted them here!!:D

Re: terracotta

Terracotta pots should not affect your water at all. I've used them before, and they are a popular, nice looking, and cheap way to decorate your tank!!:D

Re: Water conditioners

Regarding the cloudy brown water, I would say this is caused by your driftwood. Did it happen after you added the driftwood? Did you buy the driftwood or pick it up outside? It is likely releasing...

Re: New Tank Setup - 46 gal.

I fixed the problem with my pictures! Usually, I don't have a problem with size so I didn't even pay attention to it, but for some reason these picutres were a little too big. Anyway, here they are!...

Re: Filter during feeding?

I've heard the same thing about how shutting off the filter can damage the cycle and kill beneficial bacteria. Both of my tanks now have filters with adjustable flow rates, so that when I feel I can...

Re: Do You Need One

I have never used an air pump and I've never had any problems with not enough oxygen in the water, etc. I've had three tanks, two with HOB filters, and my 46 gallon has a canister filter. But I have...

Re: Do-It-Yourself Betta Filter

Haha Thanks Vanessa!! So far it's working very well, although I'm starting to get a little algae buildup on the plastic that I attached to the water output, but it looks like will be fairly easy to...

Re: otto catfish

I don't have any ottos but I do have plecos. Their fins lay flat when they are resting, and that's completely normal. I'm thinking your ottos are they same way, so no need to worry (I don't think)!...

Haha I know!! :D And after I had it posted, I was like "Why the heck is this gravel thread in the lighting section???" Well, at least it's almost Friday.

Well the moonlight is usually...

Re: What Colour

When I first started keeping fish tanks a year and a half ago, I really liked the bright blue, clean look, so I mixed blue and white gravel. That was nice for a while, and it made the tank look...

Lightbulb Do-It-Yourself Betta Filter

Most people who have ever kept a betta in a small filtered tank (say 5 gallons or less) know that strong water current can be a problem. My betta is in a 5 gallon tank and I have an AquaClear filter...

Re: The Love of Little Aquarium Friends

Tha's so true lemuelpr!! I got my first tank a little over a year ago. It was a 5 gallon and I thought "why would I ever need more space than this?" :p Then when I got a 10 gallon about 8 months...

Re: PVC cave

If I decide to do a PVC cave, or make up my own project, I will be sure to do a little write-up with pictures and post it here for other people to get ideas. ;)

Re: PVC cave

I've been trying to come up with something creative to make a cave out of. So far PVC piping seems like the best/easiest option, but I find that caves made out of PVC looks a little fake. I've seen...

Re: Sick betta - Ich or Fin Rot??

Yes, he's perked up a lot now! He is as active as before and is even building bubble nests again! :p Each morning when I get up I can see a noticeable difference in fin regrowth, so he's going to be...

That sounds like a great idea! ;) I bet it looks very natural if done properly. What site did you find this information from?

Re: Sick betta - Ich or Fin Rot??

Good news: Pleco is doing great, and betta is getting better!! :D As far as salinity goes, I was probably close to .3%. When I first set up the tank about 4 motnhs ago, I put in about 1 tablespoon...

Re: Sick betta - Ich or Fin Rot??

Thanks for the quick response!

I have a sailfin pleco, and he seems fine with the salt, but I'm watching him closely to see if his behaviour changes (and also for signs of ich).

Fancy Pants seems...

Re: Sick betta - Ich or Fin Rot??

UPDATE - On closer inspection, I'm almost 100% sure this is now fin rot plus ich. The webbing of his pectoral fins is starting to disintegrate! :( I just did a water change in the tank about 4 days...
