Default Swords & Molleys

I have Swords and Molleys. My question is can they interbreed? I have a fry that is about 2 months old and it is silver in the body with gold fins. I also have a fry the same age that is all gold like a sword. My Molleys are Silver, and Delmation my swords are just gold and I only have 1 male of each species. Hope I'm not interbreeding.

Thanks

I wouldn't worry Sandy...Mollies and Swordtails will not crossbreed with each other.

The only livebearers that do are: Platies will crossbreed with Swordtails. Endlers Livebearers will crossbreed with guppies. Mollies will crossbreed with other Molly types/strains (such as your sailfin Molly and balloon Molly etc.). Guppies and Mollies can sometimes crossbreed but the fry (if any) are either sterile or usually don't survive very long.

There are so many different colour morphs out there now that get passed on through the genes, that the fry can have different colour markings to the parents.

Thanks Bernie,

I will just have to wait and see if the fry is a Molly or Sword when it grows up. It is nice to have something a little different in the tank. It is big enough that Im sure it will survive.
