It's advisable to have just one male...I don't know about the time difference. It is now 8:16AM here, and I'm supposed to be getting ready to go out of town...Still at the computer drinking tea!!!

And I'm enjoying mine - can't be much wrong in that. Humm sunday morning. Perhaps you had better be moving, must be interesting. Plenty of time to catch up later.

Have a nice time today, i'm gonna have a nice sleepy sunday.

Sharon is right about the male having the longer more pointed dorsal fin and brighter color. A good mix for breeding is one male per two females. When you find a store with the Gourami you like, ask them how long have they had them and if they have had any die from that shipment. Gourami now days are often shipped already diseased and or in a weakened condition. It is wise to really look closely at the fish you want to buy and reject any that don't look really good.

As a precaution: Google "Gourami diseases"

Dano that makes me chuckle somewhat 'when you find a store with gouramis you like' - unfortunately my nearest store is 5hrs driving from this island I live on and I only go to mainland a few times each year. This week I have to go for an all day meeting then I shall make time somehow to get to that LFS before tearing back to catch last ferry

Oh well, island living advantages far outweigh any disadvantages - despite having to buy fish I can get rather than what I want.

Richard I'm wondering about your fry being picked off. I wonder if it might be because of their colour and their ability to hide in the tank instead of getting eaten. What colour is your substrate. I can't think otherwise why there is a difference is what fry are eaten and what fry survive.

Michelle - just great coming back to me on this subject 'cause I find it rather interesting. I like to 'know' or try to understand things when they don't appear to be obvious - if you knwo what I mean?

Maybe the subject of fry and reasons for getting eaten, should go on another thread - what you think. 'Cause it could be of interest to others and it could be quite a long discussion??

Hi Richard,

I would guess a heavily planted tank would come in to the reckoning about fry surviving, but colour is a good point and your suggestion about a separate thread might throw some light on the subject. Just hearing other peoples experiences would be very intereting indeed.

Michelle.
