What is the "Stress Coat" for?

Stress Coat is a fish and tap water conditioner containing Aloe vera to help replace the fish's slime coat after being netted (the net will remove some of the slime coat). It also removes chlorine and chloramines, detoxifies ammonia.

Used when setting up an aquarium, or when doing large water changes, or when adding or handling fish.

Stress Coat is made by API (Aquarium Parmaceuticals)

Since I don't add tap water I use Stress Coat when I add fish, transfer fish between tanks (removing adults from fry tank when fry are present), or if for some reason I do more than a 10 or 20 percent water change (presence of a lot of hair algae, disease, etc..).

Dave, I was referring to GingerKoala's last post. She purchased Prime and Stress Coat. Prime does everything that Stress Coat does. If you were to use both together there might be a problem with the fish's breathing because the gills may become too coated with the enhanced slime production. I recommend that she not use Stress Coat for anything.

Oh, misunderstood then. Thanks for clarifying.

I use stress coat as it is easy to find here, and prime is not.

Thanks for the tip regarding the additives. Much appreciated. Both were mentioned so that's why I bought them both. I should be able to return the Stress Coat. I started a thread in the water quality forum as requested to discuss my issues with cycling this tank - I am very grateful for all the expertise around here.
