I have plastic clips on the one in the 30L to blow the flow to each side...If you want to do things like that if the flow is too great then I would say get one.....Look in the Petsmart site for filters and make a copy of the price there for Emperor 400s....If the catalogue price is lower than the ones in the store they will sell it at the catalogue price.......I just bought a new one at a 25 dollar savings.

I just purchased the Emperor 280. I read it is for up to 50g so it should be good enough do you agree? And now that i have this new filter i am supposed to run both the old and new at once for a month or so and than i can remove the old filter correct? I read that on the forums.

Keep both filters running for a month or so right?

When I changed mine out I didn't want to cut the plastic top for another filter, plus the motor was dieing. So I put a section of the old filter in the new one for a few weeks.

I have read "if" your tank is cycled and running smooth you can change it out without a problem.

I believe it's up to you. If you have room, sure run it for a few weeks. If not, maybe just put a section of the foam in the new filter for a few weeks.

haha ,ok good to know because at the moment I have my old filter running from the back of the tank (where it should be) and the new one running on the front with an open lid. Looks terrible so I will just remove the old one after a week. Thanks!
