Most Barbs (like a lot of tetras) do prefer dense vegetation, for hiding if necessary & makes them feel safe, spawning etc. so having a lot of plants at the sides/back of the tank is good, but not too thick that they can't swim though the plants and have a good open area for them to swim around, because they do need a lot of swimming room. Floating plants are also a good idea as most barbs don't like strong light-subdued lighting is better.

Driftwood is also a part of their natural habitat, & I have read that they also like rocks - so anything that forms a type of rock formation might be nice for them.

They also come from fast moving streams so a strong/fast or relatively strong/fast current is better for them, but you also have to consider the other fish in the tank, whether they like a strong current or not.

Hope this helps NewGuy! I'm sure they will appreciate what you are doing for them.
