Thanks Cole - I read that too, & then I read somewhere else that they also croak when males fight over territory, and when they get air from the surface. I can say that they haven't croaked when getting air, but quite likely the others, as 2 of them (I think male/female) are always together circling each other in a romantic way & I have heard 2 different volumes of sound - a loud clicking (I think when angry) & a much quieter/softer version. It's all very interesting & exciting!!!!!!!!

It's the ones in the main tank, that are making all the noise but no bubble nests have been built, but in my research, it says that they also, often build a nest nearer the bottom & hidden behind decor or under leaves. I have plenty of places in which they can build nests, so I will just have to wait & see.

My little sparklers are doing well & now that they are all in the same tank, there isn't as much croaking going on (maybe more females in the new lot which has evened out the ratio), only now & then at feeding time when they push each other out of the way.

I added some floating plants in the hope that it may help with any bubble nests (still none) - not really floating, but I have suction cupped some plants onto the side of the walls just near the water surface so they look like there floating but this way they stay in one spot.

I don't mind though if they don't breed though but it would be nice!

Still trying to get nice pics. of them that shows them in all their sparkling glory & they really are the ballerina's of the fish world, they are so graceful.

Pictures would be nice, Bernie...I've never seen them here. Are your floating plants real?

No! not real, I just cut the base off some spare artificial plants & stuck the end into the suction cup. I could have used live plants I suppose - I didn't think of that actually - I did this on a spur of the moment thing, so I just used what was handy at the time.

I don't think it matters. It still provides shade, and helps with the shyness. If they breed, do you have another tank ready?

NO!

They really aren't shy at all, I was quite surprised - probably because they are the only ones in the tank, they feel safer. They are very curious & will explore anything new in the tank straight away & don't seem afraid of anything.

Having said that though, they are shy eaters, so they would be best kept in a species only tank or they might starve.

Better get that tank ready, then!!! Pop the bonded pair in, then remove the female back to the main tank, and watch Dad for awhile, while he takes care of eggs. Then put him back in the main tank.....and watch the babies grow!!! How hard can it be!!!!!
