Default Poor Lionhead goldfish

For Mother's day I bought my mom 1 longtailed Koi and 1 Lionhead Goldfish, But when I put them in my mom's 270 gallon pond it was instantly attacked by the old fish in the pond mostly the comets, does anyone know why this happened, in the pet store it was in a tank full of comets and was fine.

I moved the Lionhead out of the 270 gallon and into a temporary bowl full of pond water, I think we are going to move him into out old 50 gallon pond (it's still cycled)

I think it might be because the comets were used to being with themselves, and a new fish was introduced. I am sorry about what happened though. I think it was like any other tank, when you introduce a new fish some fish may be friendly and some may not.

Poor lionhead I hope he is OK! What other types of goldfish are in the pond besides comets? Maybe since the lionhead swims a little differently then comets do, they saw him as a threat or food or something? Not really sure, just a thought. I wouldnt put him back in there, you are good to put him in the 50 gallon pond, maybe get him a friend

The 270 gallon Pond has
-2 Koi
-4 Comets
-2 Tadpoles

It's a good think we didn't drain the 50 gallon.

That is horrible maybe the fish got confused and when you added the new ones, they thought you were giving them food and they went into a feeding frenzy. all speculation of course!

This is just a suggestion from someone that doesn't no squat about fish or ponds. But would it not be possible to introduce a new fish to the pond by putting it into a container that the others can see into but not get at the new neighboro. After a week or two they would be use to seeing it. Just an idea. It worked with my Betta. I had the female in the breeding container for 2 weeks. The fish could see her but couldn't hurt her. And the male Betta got use to her. And now all are happy. Don't laugh it is just a suggestion.

Sadly the Lionhead died last night, probably because we couldn't get the 50 gallon pond up in time.

Awww Cole, I'm sorry
I'm sure his injuries are what he succumbed to and not because the pond wasnt ready, so please don't blame yourself, these things happen to all of us
