Default Blue Heron Attack!

A Blue Heron visited my pond a couple days ago and ate all of my fish including my mom's 3 year old comet (Big Red). The only survivor was our 12" koi.

We were thinking about buying a decoy since Blue Herons are territorial but we still haven't decided.

Has anyone else had any experience with a Blue Heron?

That IS terrible, Cole ...We don't have Blue Herons here, so I have no advice. I was planning a pond awhile back(gave up the idea because we're afraid the neighbours children might have an accident there )...I did do some checking, and birds can be a real problem. Some have suggested a wire grid over the pond, but I would imagine it ruins the "natural" look of it....

Omg yes it ruins the look completely. We are struck with good luck to not have the blue herons too close to our house for them to eat our koi. I am really sorry about this. I found a good link for what you could do. The best things to d owould buy a statue of a heron and scare it away.

We were thinking of eiter getting more plants to give the fish cover, or getting the decoy.

Wish me luck.

Good luck! Also the alligator option is good during the winter times, or the decoy.

Aligator - blimey Think I prefer the Blue Heron than the aligator. lol
Or would that be a statue as the decoy, yes I guess so
