Default Mac has Taken a Beating

Mac didn't come out to eat yesterday or today...I did some poking around and this is what I found. I can't see anyone in the tank who would have done this...any suggestions....

It appears that there is a bacterial infection along the areas where the fin is damaged. Any fish could have done it, but it is more than likely that it has probally scraped it's self backing into it's favorite hiding place.

He has a huge chunk taken out of his back. I'm tempted to try and catch him...the problem is the hospital tank is only 10 gal. I'm wondering if that will stress him out. He's really not looking good....If it's a bacterial infection, it's moving fast. I took pics of him a few days ago, and he was fine....

I think he's in the same tank with the A. Cichlids which may be chewing him up? If he is being relentlessly pounded, I would definately move him to the 10 where you can observe and possibly treat. Just make sure that the 10 has near the same water quality and temp as the big tank. If you can put his "hidey hole" in with him or something similar that he can hide in to make him as comfortable as possible. Keep us posted.

No, he's not in the cichlid tank...they would have eaten him alive in 20 minutes! He's in the 55 gal. where there doesn't seem to be any threat to him. Actually, until the last couple of days, he usually has been doing the chasing. I've moved him to hospital, and he was pathetically easy to catch. While acclimating, which didn't take long, he laid on his side. He's found a spot to rest in the tank, but hasn't moved. When he does, it seems he has no balance. I really don't think he'll make it....I'm treating with salt, Melafix in conjunction with Pimafix. There isn't much available here, in the way of meds...

He died during the night... I've examined him with magnification, and he has bites taken out of him in several areas. I've been doing some reading, and it seems the pleco may be the likely culprit, as they sometimes target fish who like to stay in one spot??? Needless to say, I'm rotted!!!!

Sorry to hear that Sharon

Plecos can be annoying at times thats why my common pleco lives in the pond now.
