Default my convicts just had babies!!

wow! i just came home from work and noticed that two of my convict chiclids have a bunch of babies that they are guarding in a cave in the back corner of my 55 gallon.

what do i need to do??? the convict pair share the tank with 1 other convict, 2 green sevrums, 2 jack dempseys, and 3 african butter catfish. all of the above mentioned fish are one inch or smaller in size.

the pair are strongly guarding the new batch of fish...

what do the newly born fish eat or require??

HELP!!

for now they will guard the fry with no problem
leave a light on at night like a small lamp
when the fry get bigger syphon the fry with a turkey baster and put in another tank to grow up
the fry dont need any special food at all,but if you want you couold buy frozen BBS and squirt some in there corner to help with growth
or just leave them there for somemidnight snacks for the other fish j/k
they will keep spawing everytime you take out the fry or when the parents are sick of there kids they will chase them away and spawn again and again.
if its your first time i sure your loving it
my first time was great it was in my first 55gl. in this state

thanks for the reply alan...

what are your thoughts on using a tank divider to split up the new "family" and the other fish...

that seems much easier/ cheaper than setting up another tank..

thanks

Congrats on the fry Pressureflip

What type of convicts are they?

A divider seems like a good plan to me.

I've seen regular black convicts, Pink convicts, and calico convicts.

I saw a calico at the Lfs the other day for only 99 cents I resisted my urge though. If I was to get one it would have to be a female and it would have to be little.

actually the divider would probably benefit the other tankmates
since convict are infamous for harming their tankmates when having fry
