Hi you folks,

I also think you have Honey Gouramis, but I have also seen something similar sold in our local shops as Red Robin Gouramis. Really strange when something like that happens to two fish. I was not very lucky with my Honey Gouramis - they died one after the other. My son was more successful with the larger Sun Set (similar to Sharon's Blue ones), but they became agressive as Sharon has mentioned and I had to rehome them.

Hello Michelle - great to come across you again

See you have lodza tiddly kribs - well done. I have similar problem with my guppies - gone totally sex mad and now have a tankful of fry. Fortunately I think I have a home for most of them with someone not far away from here.

Hi Richard,

Good luck with your guppy fry. When I first started fishkeeping, I had a tank full of colourful guppies. They were not prolific breeders and I found that the line was very weak. I decided to take the remaining ones to a lfs who were grateful to take them off my hands. They were all of the same ilk, very small when compared to less colourful wild strains. I guess my fishkeeping has come a long way since then. (well I like to think so).

Nice to know that you can off load your fry to someone that appreciates them, it makes breeding more interesting and worthwhile.

I have moved my krib pair into a 120 litre community tank. So far so good, no problems. I'm hoping that if they do breed again, that events will take a natural course and some of the eggs/fry will fall prey to the tanks other occupants.

I have kept the fry from their first spawn to see how they develop out of interest. I have over 100 of them, but guess some of these will die off through natural selection as they age.

Michelle

Thanks Dano - honey it is then. I shall have to see if I can get some more despite losing my originals. What is the best/easiest way to sex them?

Michelle - what I really dont understand is why platy fry just don't seem to get eaten, black molly fry disappear almost immediately ( these are the ones I really want to keep) and the rest sort of in the middle somewhere. What is the pecking order in fry being gobbled up or is it colour and who does it??

I really want to get more gouramis and concentrate on trying to get them to breed.

Hi fairbs

They are such beautiful fish. My son kept dwarf gouramis and they did make attempts to breed (unfortunately, I accidentally destroyed the bubble nest trying to get the nest safe within the confines of a tank divider). My son was not a happy boy. Following this we bought a new filter and the water flow was too strong for him to build another bubble nest.

I will try to post some piccies of that spawn.

The male preparing his bubble nest.

~
The male has just released the female from a tight hold/sqeeze.
Hope you enjoy, but just to add, the male became rather agressive towards the female after this spawn.

great piccies there Michelle. It has really got me going and gouramis is my next project. My problem is LFS and where I will find any gouramis up here. Off to mainland end of this week so will have a hunt around.

Richard...female Gouramis have a rounded Dorsal fin whereas the male's is pointed. Females are plumper than the male...

Thanks Sharon. I will go to my LFS and study them hard providing they have some.I seem to remember that there should only be one of one of the sexes and several of the other - which is which?

And what is time delay between here and Newfoundland?
