How long do you keep them on? Are you trying to mimic the cycle of the moon?

No there only on 3 hours a night from 9pm to 12 they come on just befor the other lights go out and the other lights are on for 6 hours from about 3 pm to 9 pm... I found that keeps the alige in the tank in check...I use them because i like the way thay look and i like too watch the cory's at night when i find they are the most active...rob

I never tried it, but some marine hobbyists duplicate the cycles of the moon for certain corals they keep. Many corals breed during certain seasons along with the moon cycles.

I really like the looks of moon lights. I have a small moon light in my 55g tank. I may invest in moon lights for all my tanks eventually. Although I have not noticed a difference in my algae growth in my 55g.

Hi Stormy and thx I didn't get the moon lights because of algie growth...I got them because I think the look good in tanks I seen them at the LFS and I realy liked it and it looked cool...I shoped around for a bit and found them at wal-mart... They are made by marineland and for 3 led's and the power hub to plug them in all cost me about $40....

Hi Rob. If it is helping keep the algae in check that is great. My WM does not sell moonlights like you have. They have a very limited selection of lighting for tanks. I payed a furtune for my single blue light that has a built in air stone around it. It was marked down to $39.99 at the LFS. The colored lights make a beautiful night light in the home. My blue light runs 24/7.

Stormy I don't need the moon lights for algie I like the look I think it looks cool.... I use them more too watch my corydoras and catfish I find there more active at night... I only have them on from about 9pm to midnight and my other lights are on from 3pm to 9pm they are a coralife 2-65w 50\50.....I know that is a marine light for reef tanks but they make the fish look amassing....
