Default Betta and apple snail?

Considering this combo in my 5 gallon. Concerned that the temps would be too high for the snail? (80 degrees)

Thoughts?

I have trumpet snails and pond snails that are in my 20 gallon tank that is kept between 75 and 82 degrees.

Quote:
The optimal water temperature for apple snails lays between 18 to 28C (65-82F). As with many cold-blooded animals, apple snails are more active at higher temperatures. At higher temperatures, they eat faster, creep faster and they grow faster. Also higher temperatures mainly induce the reproduction of the apple snail. At lower temperatures (18C/65F) the apple snail enters a dormancy state in which they creep away in the mud and become very inactive. Temperatures below 18C/65F should be avoided as the mortality rate quickly increases.

you should be fine.

Thanks! I've got a couple ramshorns in my 12 gallon and they're fun to watch, which is what made me think of the Apple for the 5 gallon. I'd get the snail first so it's part of the enviornment when the betta comes aboard.

Hi fishhead. Personaly I would not put apple snails in with a betta. More and likely the betta will pick at the apple snail. I have seen their antennas ate off.

I hope your new betta does well. I agree with what you said in your other post. We dont know how old the betta is when it is puchased. Most of the time and they go through a lot from breeder to a new home. As for the shrimp...if it will fit in the bettas mouth the chances are it will get eaten. Shrimp are very fast so they have a chance.

I think we made a good choice. This betta is much more aggressive than the last one. When I look at the tank, and he's on the other side, he zooms up to me and flares! He even chomps at the food pellets with vigor. He's nipped at the few pond snails that still hang around the tank as well; the other one did it once or twice and then didn't bother.

I'm going to wait until snail space opens up in my 12 gallon. Currently I've two big ramshorns (about nickel sized shells) in there and it's otherwise fully stocked.

The 5g will stay betta only.
