So it just helps the betta by making it feel at home? Is that right? Well it certainly helped your betta feel that way. Good choice! Keep us updated on his progress.

Pretty much. It's a natural way to adjust the water paramaters a little...

edit: Ha. I've just learned that activated carbon (unless used up obviously) will remove the blackwater extract from the water. No wonder my water cleared up My Eclipse filters contain carbon.

Are you speaking on behalf of your old betta or the new one? Maybe the new one was more hardy than the previous one?

The new one. I hadn't known about blackwater extract before.

The first one was active, but had a very different personality. This one is very aggressive. It might just be a difference between fish.

Yes, probably. Aggressiveness can make a fish more hardy though, and of course the layout of the fish matters (internally).

Be careful using the BW extract...It affects ph by increasing the acidity of the water.
