When you have fish in a tank that is in the process of cycling it is very important to monitor the water parameters daily. If your ammonia or nitrite is over .25 you need a water change. I always did a water change if I had any ammonia or nitrite during the cycle process. I have always sucked up the poop during a tank cycle with no issues to cycling the tank but I have always used bio spira or a mature seeded filter media to kick the cycle into gear. The idea is not to clean your gravel throughly. I doubt it would halt your cycle to suck up loose poop on top of the gravel.

I agree with Stormy...I'd definitely vac. the substrate...most of the bacteria is in the filter, and too much poop and uneaten food is going to elevate the Ammonia levels...

You should probably make your own thread about this, instead of posting here...

alright, ill do that. Also, is it ok if i take water from another cycled tank with ammonia and nitrite readings of 0? I though this might kick start rather then a chemical additive. I'm getting a little tight for cash so i'm trying to make do with what i have.

when you say .25 do you mean 2.5? might test kit isn't that accurate. right now there at about 0.6-1.2.

no, I mean .25
I use liquid tests and that is the lowest reading I can get for ammonia. 1.2 to me means you need a water change asap.

That will help some. Can you pull the filter media out and put it into the new tank?
