Default Salt for Freshwater

I am curious if it would be alright to add salt to my aquarium with the fish I have in it (listed in my signature).

The only reason to add salt to a freshwater tank is to stop certain diseases. Unless your fish are showing signs of fin rot or ick I would not add salt to the tank.

This ick is so persistent would salt help keep my fish alive and fight it better?

"Got rid of the Ick but had many deaths in the process "....You posted this in the Disease sub forum on 2-2-09 at 6:58pm..........

You started treating with Maracide, why not continue with it until the ick is gone.....Switching to a salt and high temperature treatment won't be any better than what you are doing.......You need to take a close look at things to see if you can discover why the ick won't go away. (usually poor water quality and or low tank temps)

I thought i got rid of the ick, but its still there, turns out i kept my carbon filter in so i had to switch to a different medicine. The guy at the LFS told me that.

Forget what the guy at the LFS told you and do like I said.....continue with the Maracide untill the white spots have been gone for a few days......Why ask for advice here if you aren't going to follow it!

Maracide or Quick Cure, they both work well when the directions are followed.
